Are Bi-folding Doors Secure?

The safety of your home is likely to be of high importance to you. When selecting the type of windows and doors you will choose for your home, the level of security they offer should be a consideration.

It is a common misconception that bi-folding doors are less secure than other door types and in our latest blog post we discuss the security offered by bi-fold doors and why they are so popular.

Bi-fold Door Locking System

Bi-folding doors are aesthetically pleasing and offer many great advantages such as letting in a lot of natural light and offering uninterrupted views of your outside space. Most types of bi-folding doors also come with a multi-point locking system, making them more secure than French or sliding doors. In addition to this locking mechanism, bi-fold doors also feature an inline tracking system which would make it near on impossible for an intruder to lift the doors out of their system unless they were carrying a plethora of specific tools on them. Bi-fold doors are designed with security in mind and although no design of domestic window or door could 100% guarantee that your home won’t be the target of a burglary, bi-fold doors will not make your home more of a target or less secure.

Bifold Door Locks

Now we’ve covered the security of the doors within the bi-fold system, we’ll turn our attention to the actual lock of the doors. The type of lock you choose for the doors in your home will depend on many things, including the locks you are already used to using. Let’s take a look at some of the most popular options:

Twin-point Locks

An attractive and easy to use option, twin-point locks can operate both the top and bottom locks of your bi-fold doors effortlessly. Built around a handle that will be secured at the centre of your bi-fold doors, a twin-point lock comes in many finishes, making it a great option for many homes

Deadbolt Locks

Deadbolt locks add an extra layer of security to your bi-folding doors and are used to secure a wide variety of doors, including patio doors and sliding doors.

Child-proof Locks

If you have children in your home, investing in childproof locks could give you extra peace of mind that your child will not be able to operate the door.

There are many types of child locks available and the type you invest in may depend on how old your child and the style of the lock.
